Rev. Robert Michael Joseph Kaminsky
Robert Michael is a former police officer who was appointed by the Anaheim (California) Police Department in 1983. The following year he lateraled to Cathedral City Police, a brand-new department bordering Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage. While there he had the privilege of helping to build the department from the ground-up as the fourth officer hired.
During his career, Robert Michael experienced many critical incidents which included two on-duty combat shootings, and the 1987 on-duty death of his partner, David Vasquez. These, and other serious critical incidents, caused post-traumatic stress symptoms which were not diagnosed for nearly 10 years.
After receiving treatment in clinical counseling and experiencing healing, Robert Michael went into ministry. He pastored a church for 17 years where he specialized in pastoral counseling, and later clinical counseling. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies, a Master of Arts in Consciousness and Spirituality, and a Master of Science in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling with a focus in crisis and trauma. Robert Michael is certified in Critical Incident Stress Management and Pastoral Crisis Intervention. In addition to his spiritual direction and life coaching practice, he currently serves as a chaplain for the Cincinnati Police Department in District 2.
Since 1998, many individuals, couples, and families have experienced hope and healing through Robert Michael’s ministry and counseling practice named Soul Purpose. At Creekside, he offers life coaching and spiritual direction to his clients in a professional and supportive environment.
Carl Jung said, “We are not what happens to us; we are what we choose to be.” When combining evidenced-based practices with spirituality, in harmony with each person’s own faith-based perspectives, healing emotional and psychological trauma, and creating new personal growth are not merely possible; it is how the human soul is designed. After all, that is what psychology is: the study and care of the soul.
